At the Troy Racquet Club Academy, children can start playing tennis as young as 3 or 4 years old. We offer a fun and friendly environment where your child's confidence will soar when she makes her first point. Tennis is a lifelong activity that not only helps your child develop strength and balance, but also helps your child improve focus and develop discipline.
ln a word, “No”, When it comes to tennis, we follow the same logic as other youth sports like baseball or soccer, which use kid-sized courts and kid-sized equipment. Kids learn to play baseball by tirst playing T-ball Where they use smaller lighter bats, bigger balls & a smaller playing tield. Kids learning basketball shoot baskets with kidsized balls on lowered backboards and they play soccer on smaller ‘fields with smaller goals.
TRC Academy participates with the USTA 10 and Under Tennis, now balls bounce lower, don't move as fast through the air and are easier to hit. We use smaller nets and the court area is smaller and easier to cover for small feet. The benefits are immediate and within a short time kids are rallying, playing, and excited to keep playing. That means kids will have more tun and less frustration. They‘re playing real tennis and having real fun--and that’s what is most important.
During the last week of the session, we will have a make-up class, time and date to be announced. Please Contact Nancy at the TRC Academy at Lesson Coordinator, and she will let you know when the make-up class will take place.
While the name and description of the class can be a guide on where you should initially place your child, as long as your child is enjoying tennis and is making continued progress, there shouldn’t be much concern about the name of the class. Rest assured, our coaches will let you know if your child has out grown his or her particular class and will do our best to place him in a class that fits his age & skill.
